Sunday Readings
EPIPHANY OF THE LORD

The feast of the Epiphany of the Lord celebrate the revealing to all nations, represented by the wise men, of Jesus as the Saviour of the world.

The Prayer: That we will be guided by the light of truth.

The First Reading: The Jewish people, returning from exile to Jerusalem, see the lights of the rebuilt temple as a sign of hope for all the world.  (Isaiah 6:1-6)

Psalm Response: All nations shall fall prostrate before you, O Lord

The Second Reading:  St Paul writes about a revelation to be shared not just among the people of one nation, but throughout the world.  (Ephesians 3:2-3.5-6)

Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia! We saw his star as it rose and have come to do the Lord homage.  Alleluia!

Gospel:  How strangers came to hear the Hebrew scriptures and learned to recognise the child who is the Saviour of the world.  (Matthew 2:1-12)

The Intercessions:

Pray that the Church may be a light for all who seek the truth, for divided families and nations…

Pray that the world may hear Christ’s message of peace and love, from those to whom the message has been revealed…

Pray especially for the people of Zimbabwe, of Somalia, of Iraq and Afghanistan, and for refugees throughout the world…

Pray that the New Year may bring new opportunities for peace and reconciliation. May God bless those who dedicate their lives to building a better world...

We pray for the members of our parish, and of our community, who are ill, or housebound, and who cannot be with us today. May the Lord heal them, and may he bless those who care for them…
